About Getting Started: The Financial Guide For A Younger Generation

Getting Started: The Financial Guide For A Younger Generation is a straight-forward, easy-to-read, no-nonsense approach to basic financial planning strategies and tactics for individuals and young couples in their twenties through early forties. While the book does focus on certain areas that are applicable to all ages (estate planning and divorce), the thrust of the book is to help single people and young married couples better manage their financial well-being.

The book is not an investment “how-to” manual that guarantees to make the reader a millionaire or turn them into a genius overnight. In fact, the book makes very little mention of investments at all. The book is written from the perspective of an “ordinary person” trying to get their arms around their job, their family, and the financial situations that can impact their everyday lives.

Brian T. Jones, CFP®, is a 30-something Certified Financial Planner® who is young enough to speak from current personal experiences and as an authority on these important subjects. The book attempts to focus on areas of specific importance that can impact single individuals, married couples, and families, but in a way that is light and not condescending.

The book will define “financial planning” and how failing to plan can negatively impact you and/or your family’s financial well-being. Brian will detail how your financial life is like a “roadmap” and how your financial plan must improvise and adapt to the changing landscape as you go through the stages of life.

A common belief is that the best way to learn is to observe what others have done or been through. To help the readers learn what they can do to help their situations, Brian incorporates a multitude of stories from real people. The examples presented are chosen to show the reader that financial problems and responsibilities can impact any household at any point in time. The book details how in each situation a problem was identified, a plan was designed to manage the problem, and the plan was implemented.
